Built from fire and vision

A cabin reborn. In 2021, David and Bonnie transformed a modest retreat into one of Southern Vermont's most beautiful luxury homes. When an electrical fire struck in 2024, they rebuilt it better than ever.

From Cabin to Retreat

Wandering Moose started as a cozy cabin. In 2021, David and Bonnie bought the property with a vision to transform it into something more. They succeeded, then faced a test. In 2024, an electrical fire struck while the house sat empty. What could have ended everything became a chance to rebuild better. "While the fire was devastating, it gave us an opportunity to rethink everything," David said. "Bonnie was able to fine-tune every detail and make the house even more special than before." Every surface, every fixture, every room now reflects that intention. Natural materials, warm lighting, and mountain-inspired textures create a space that feels both luxurious and deeply restful. This is a home that was built twice, and it shows.

Design That Feels Like Home

At 42 North, we believe a vacation rental should be more than a place to sleep. It should feel like home, but with something that makes you want to come back. Every finish at Wandering Moose was chosen to deliver that feeling. The stone fireplace, the warm lighting, the way the kitchen opens to the great room, the record player waiting in the lower level—these details aren't accidents. They're the result of thoughtful design that respects both the guest and the place. "We wanted to create a retreat that felt true to Vermont," David says. "Warm, natural, and a little unexpected. When guests walk in, they instantly feel like they've found their own mountain escape." That's the 42 North philosophy in practice.
